Tuesday Takeover: Meet Courtney Davis

Where do you live in Palm Beach County?

We stay at The Ambassador Hotel and Residences; my husband is a real estate developer and it’s one of our family properties there, along with The Brazilian Court Hotel. The property is right next to the Four Seasons, so it’s a little bit away from town and right on the beach, which is great for privacy and allows our kid to run around freely yelling “Fire Truck! Helicopter! Police Car!” at the top of his lungs.

How long have you lived here?

I wish we lived in Palm Beach all the time (I even love the blistering heat), but most of the year I’m in Westport, Connecticut. I actually didn’t know much about Palm Beach until I met my husband. I’m originally from Austin, Texas, and the first time he took me there I literally couldn’t believe my eyes. It was the most beautiful place I’d ever seen. The water was incredibly clear, and I didn’t know houses could even LOOK like that!

What do you love about living in Palm Beach County?

My favorite part about Palm Beach is the history, and seeing how so much of it has been untouched for so many years. I love driving along South County Road and looking at the homes from the 40’s and picturing the people who lived there…I imagine them serving pastries by their pool in swimming caps. I also love the little stores in the enclaves of Worth Avenue; I feel like you can get the best jewelry there! And of course I love Brazilian Court and the celeriac risotto at Cafe Boulud–they make it vegetarian and use less cream for me–it’s the best thing I’ve ever tasted. Although my husband likes to remind me that anything with flavor probably tastes good to me since I’m a vegetarian–little does he know vegetables are delightfully flavorful!

How many children do you have?

We have one son and a baby girl on the way due in June. I’m terrified of having 2 kids but I guess we’re just going to roll with it! I probably should have thought of that before now…

What are their ages?

My son is two years old and has the cutest red hair. He’s great and apparently “so easy” (say other moms) but being a mom was so different then what I thought it would be, as in, it’s MUCH harder! All the sudden, you constantly worry about something so much bigger than you, and at the same time, your hopes and dreams just fly out the window! Just kidding, (kind of). It really is incredible being a parent though and I’ve never laughed harder in my life at some of the things he does. I actually wrote a rap song about my whole “mom journey” recently which I will share with you, called “Oh Sh*t I’m a Mom Now.”

What is your job description?

I am a stand up comedian and radio show host on Star 99.9 (called Courting with Courtney) where I give dating advice to callers. I used to do stand up until 2 or 3am in New York, but then I became a mom and started asking for the earliest stage time possible…now I perform for the four people who go to comedy clubs at 5pm. Actually, now I mainly perform for the four people who go to Zoom Comedy shows at 5pm.

What is your favorite activity to do in Palm Beach with your family?

I feel like Palm Beach has the best activities for families. We love going to the zoo, shopping at the Royal Poinciana Plaza, and sunbathing on the beach. I’ve never been, but I heard there is a car show there that’s incredible there; typically I wouldn’t care at all about cars, but now that we have a two year old, it’s amazing how much I notice any kind of vehicle. We are planning to go to the car show this year and I actually can’t wait!

Best piece of parenting advice you have received:

Every family is different, if you don’t want to let your child “cry it out,” you don’t have to! They’re only little for so long, so enjoy whatever moments you want to with them.
